Singers from the St. Charles Borromeo Roman Catholic Church, the Metropolitan Opera Chorus and other regional and  national opera companies will reunite on Sunday, November 14 at 7:00 PM in Brooklyn Heights to present "A Taste of Broadway."

The cast originally performed this cabaret-style program in Grenada this past June, the second of two concerts to benefit the island's General Hospital. The hospital was built at a cost of EC (Eastern Caribbean) $20 million (about US $8.6 million) and opened in January 2003. The 198-bed facility, like much of Grenada's infrastructure, was destroyed by Hurricane Ivan in September. The first "Taste of Broadway" revue in May 2003 netted EC$48,000 (US $20,640), and this year's concert raised over EC $40,000 (US $17,200). Proceeds from the November 14 performance will go to the Hospital Fund Raising Committee that produced the Grenadian concerts to help rebuild the hospital and Grenada. Both concerts were presented by the committee and the Grenada Hotel Tourism Association, under the distinguished patronage of their Excellencies The Governor General of Grenada Sir Daniel Williams and Lady Williams, both of whom have been invited, along with other Caribbean and New York dignitaries, to attend the November benefit.

The program will include selections from Broadway classics such as Candide, Jekyll and Hyde, Cats and Lady in the Dark, and from operas La Bohème, Carmen and Il Pagliacci, along with  spirituals and art songs. The 13-member cast features Donald Barnum, Minister of Music at St. Charles Borromeo Roman Catholic Church and Metropolitan Opera dramatic baritone; Metropolitan Opera tenor Raymond Aparentado; soprano Deborah Anne Faw, who has sung title roles for Brooklyn's Regina Opera and Ohio's Sorg Opera; pianist and organist Jonathan B. Hall; Metropolitan Opera bass Brooks King; Canadian mezzo-soprano soloist Deborah Milsom; soprano Whitney Nathan, Skidmore College freshman and former soloist at St. Charles Borromeo Church; saxophonist William L. Powers; Broadway and opera tenor Steven Stein-Grainger; Philene Wannelle, principal mezzo-soprano with La Gran Scena Opera Company; and soprano Nancy Wright, cantor and soloist at St. Charles Borromeo Church. They will be assisted by Katherine Williams, Jonathan Russell and the St. Charles Choir. Refreshments will be served.

The concert will take place in the parish school of St. Charles Borromeo Roman Catholic Church, 21 Sidney Place, Brooklyn Heights. Ticket prices range from $15 to $100. For more information, contact Donald Barnum, 212-799-6944 or dcbjr1@aol.com.
