all began with SAY YES! Voices of Unity which is currently in its
third year. Our idea is to build bridges through music between
Christian, Jews and Muslims. We interweave music from the three
Abrahamic faiths singing in Hebrew, Urdu, Arabic and English. Robinson McClellan is composer-in-residence.

The Brooklyn Community Chorus is an independent community choir in Park Slope, Brooklyn, open to anyone who loves to sing a variety of music, both sacred and secular, classical and popular, historic and contemporary. We draw our conductors and soloists exclusively from within the chorus and from the local community; and our choice of repertoire is often determined by popular consent of the group rather than imposed by a single music director. It is this spirit of democratic community that makes the Brooklyn Community Chorus unique, and a truly community organization. In addition to our full concert in June, we perform at various community venues and events throughout the year. All ages welcome, no auditions needed.

A chamber choir about which The New York Times said, "Chamber choruses don't come any better," The Canticum Novum Singers is now entering its 39th season under founder/conductor Harold Rosenbaum. Known for its gorgeous blend and expressivity, the choir performs music of all periods, with an emphasis on both early music and premieres by modern composers (over 65 to date including Ravel, Berio, Schnittke, Schickele and Corigliano). Of the 500 or so members throughout the years, over 100 have gone on to sing professionally. The choir has performed over 450 concerts in this country and in Europe, and has collaborated countless times with P.D.Q. Bach (Peter Schickele), and with orchestras. The Canticum Novum Singers is in residence at St. Ignatius of Antioch Episcopal Church on 87th Street and West End Avenue.

Founded in 1924, the Dessoff Choirs is one of New York’s strongest choral organizations. Beginning in the 1930s, the group pioneered the performing and recording of music by pre-Bach masters, much of which was later published by Theodore Presser as The Dessoff Choir Series. While its repertoire has widened to include music from all periods, Dessoff continues to present choral works of significant quality that are not yet part of the canon of choral singing. In 1999 Dessoff won the ASCAP/Chorus America Award for Adventurous Programming.

Attendance varies from week to week, and we try to tailor the music to the vocal ranges of those who show
up. We consider ourselves amateurs, although all have

pianists, string players, semi-professional singers,
composers, and others with a deep interest in the
music we sightread. Primarily a sightreading group, we

Gotham Rock Choir (GRC) is NYC's first choir devoted solely to the performance of rock/pop/soul music and related genres. Comprised of people from all walks of life and all musical levels with a passion for singing, GRC fills the void for singers that are attracted to being part of a choir, but might not be interested in traditional concert choirs or a cappella groups. Think "Glee" for adults. Supportive, friendly, diva-free environment.

First published in 1844, The Sacred Harp is the most enduringly beloved
of the classic 19th century songbooks written in shape notes, an
ingenious system designed as a musical teaching aid. Boisterous camp meeting ranters; ancient folk melodies; haunting, almost
medieval-sounding dirges and fuging tunes are sung a cappella with the singers facing each other in a square. The result is dynamic, frequently raw, and often achingly beautiful. No experience necessary. All voices welcome.

of occasions to Europe singing in Paris, London and Rome. Membership is open
