Cantabile Chamber Chorale announces the retirement of its beloved founding Artistic Director, Rebecca Scott, after 38 years of visionary leadership. Her final performance, "Echoes of Spain: Part II," will take place on December 6, 2025, marking the culmination of a remarkable tenure that has shaped the ensemble's identity and inspired generations of singers and audiences.
Rebecca helped establish Cantabile Chamber Chorale in New Jersey in 1987, bringing a bold artistic vision and a deep commitment to community engagement. Over the decades, she expanded the ensemble's repertoire to include multicultural and contemporary works, premiered dozens of new compositions, and fostered collaborations with local choirs and emerging composers. She also curated programs that explored themes of environmental stewardship, sustainable living and cosmic wonder, encouraging audiences to engage with music as a lens for understanding our world and the universe.
Under her direction, Cantabile has grown into a vibrant musical community known for its artistic excellence and inclusive spirit. Rebecca's legacy is one of innovation, compassion and unwavering dedication to the transformative power of choral music.
"I've been deeply moved by the voices and hearts that have joined Cantabile over the years," said Rebecca Scott. "This final concert is not just a farewell--it's a celebration of the community we've built together through music."
The December 6 farewell concert will feature selections from Spanish and Hispanic seasonal choral traditions, including Renaissance polyphony, regional folk songs and contemporary favorites.
